Platelets are small blood cells that cause blood to clot and are involved in thrombosis. When a blood clot forms in an artery, it stops the flow of blood and cuts off the supply of oxygen. When this happens in the heart it can cause a heart attack or an episode of angina pectoris; in the brain it can cause a stroke.\u003cbr\u003eAcetylsalicylic acid Krka is used to reduce the risk of blood clots forming, thus preventing the subsequent occurrence of:\u003cbr\u003e- heart attacks\u003cbr\u003e- strokes\u003cbr\u003e- cardiovascular problems in patients diagnosed with stable or unstable angina (a type of chest pain).\u003cbr\u003eAcetylsalicylic acid Krka is also used to prevent blood clots after certain types of heart surgery to widen or unblock blood vessels.\u003cbr\u003eThe decision to start treatment and the appropriate dosage should be made by your doctor.\u003cbr\u003eThis medicine is not recommended in emergency cases. It can only be used as a preventive treatment.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eContraindications:\u003cbr\u003eDo not take Acetylsalicylic acid Krka:\u003cbr\u003e- if you are allergic to acetylsalicylic acid or any of the other ingredients of this medicine.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003ePrecautions:\u003cbr\u003eTalk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking Acetylsalicylic acid Krka.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003ePregnancy, breast-feeding and fertility:\u003cbr\u003eIf you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to become pregnant, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003ePregnant women should not take acetylsalicylic acid during pregnancy unless advised by their doctor.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eYou should not take Acetylsalicylic acid Krka if you are in the last trimester of pregnancy unless your doctor tells you to, and in this case the daily dose should not exceed 100 mg (see section “Do not take Acetylsalicylic acid Krka”). In general, acetylsalicylic acid should be used with caution in elderly patients who are prone to adverse reactions.
