Protecardin works by preventing the aggregation (“sticking together”) of blood cells called thrombocytes (or blood platelets) and thus prevents the formation of blood clots (thrombi).\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eDue to this effect, Protecardin is used for:\u003cbr\u003e- preventing the recurrence of myocardial infarction and stroke (transient ischemic attack and cerebral infarction);\u003cbr\u003e- reducing the risk of myocardial infarction in patients with angina pectoris (known as painful chronic ischemic cardiopathy), or with multiple risk factors, such as: high blood pressure, increased blood lipid levels (hypercholesterolemia), smoking, diabetes mellitus and family history;\u003cbr\u003e- maintaining blood circulation in the blood vessels of the heart after certain surgical interventions (vascular surgery, percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty, coronary bypass).\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eImportant: Protecardin is not intended for the treatment of pain or fever; for this purpose, other medicines containing acetylsalicylic acid in appropriate doses (500 mg) should be used.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eContraindications:\u003cbr\u003eDo not use Protecardin:\u003cbr\u003e- if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to acetylsalicylic acid, other salicylates or any of the other ingredients of Protecardin.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003ePrecautions:\u003cbr\u003eBefore using Protecardin, consult your doctor or pharmacist.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003ePregnancy and breastfeeding:\u003cbr\u003eAsk your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking any medicine.\u003cbr\u003eDo not use Protecardin if you are in the last trimester of pregnancy. In the first two trimesters of pregnancy, take Protecardin only if your doctor recommends it.\u003cbr\u003eDuring breast-feeding, take Protecardin only if your doctor recommends it.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eDriving and using machines:\u003cbr\u003eProtecardin does not affect your ability to drive or use machines.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eHow to take:\u003cbr\u003eAlways use Protecardin exactly as your doctor has told you. You should talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eDosage:\u003cbr\u003eAdults: For long-term treatment, the usual dose is 1–2 Protecardin 75 mg gastro-resistant tablets once a day.\u003cbr\u003eIn short-term treatment, on the recommendation of your doctor, in acute coronary syndrome or ischemic stroke, higher doses of up to 300 mg acetylsalicylic acid may be appropriate. Thereafter, treatment will continue with the dose recommended for long-term treatment.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eChildren and adolescents:\u003cbr\u003eProtecardin is not administered to children and adolescents.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIf you have any further questions on this medicine, ask your doctor or pharmacist.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eComposition:\u003cbr\u003e- The active substance is acetylsalicylic acid.
