Indications:
Hirudoid 3mg/g cream is used for the topical treatment of:
- contusions (traumas) with or without ecchymoses (hematomas)
- superficial phlebitis (inflammation of the veins) when compression treatment is not possible.

Contraindications:
Do not use Hirudoid 3 mg/g cream:
- if you are allergic to chondroitin polysulfate or any of the other ingredients of this medicine.

Precautions:
Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before using Hirudoid 3 mg/g cream.

Pregnancy, breast-feeding and fertility:
If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to become pregnant, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.

To date, experience with the topical use of chondroitin polysulfate - administered cutaneously to pregnant or breastfeeding women - has not shown any harmful effects on the fetus or infant.

Driving and using machines:
No special precautions are required.

Method of administration:
Always use this medicine exactly as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.

The usual dose is:
Apply Hirudoid 3 mg/g cream to the affected area 2-3 times a day. Depending on the surface of the area to be treated, an application of 3-5 cm of gel is generally sufficient.

Method of administration:
For cutaneous use.
Apply Hirudoid 3 mg/g cream evenly to the affected area and massage gently until absorbed into the skin. Use Hirudoid 3mg/g cream only on undamaged skin; avoid contact with eyes or mucous membranes.

As with other gels containing alcohol, you should not cover the areas treated with Hirudoid 3 mg/g cream with bandages.
Hirudoid 3 mg/g cream is also suitable for physiotherapeutic procedures such as phonophoresis and iontophoresis.
During iontophoresis, Hirudoid 3 mg/g cream should be applied under the cathode.

Composition:
- The active substance is chondroitin polysulfate obtained from bovine tracheal cartilage.
1 g of cream contains chondroitin polysulfate from bovine tracheal cartilage 3mg, equivalent to 25,000 units (units determined by activated partial thromboplastin time – APTT)
- The other ingredients are: Glycerol 85%, stearic acid, lanolin alcohol ointment, emulsifying stearyl alcohol (type A), myristyl alcohol, isopropyl alcohol, potassium hydroxide, methyl p-hydroxybenzoate (E 218), timolol, propyl p-hydroxybenzoate (E 216), purified water.
