This medicine is a local contraceptive.
It reduces the risk of pregnancy, without making it disappear completely.
Its effectiveness depends on compliance with the method of use.

What is a local contraceptive method?
This method consists of using a chemical substance or spermicide, which destroys sperm.

When is this local contraceptive method used?
This method of contraception is mainly recommended if you have forgotten to take the contraceptive pill or have taken it late; in this case, read the package leaflet of the oral contraceptive you are taking again and combine the 2 methods of contraception for the remaining time of the menstrual cycle.

Your doctor may also prescribe this method of contraception in the following particular situations:
- if you cannot use an oral contraceptive method or an intrauterine device IUD (diaphragm, IUD);
- if you have recently given birth, are breastfeeding or are premenopausal;
- if you want to use a short-term contraceptive method;
- in combination with the local contraceptive method by IUD (diaphragm, intrauterine device), especially if certain medications are administered at the same time, such as non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.

Contraindications:
Do not take Pharmatex 18.9 mg soft vaginal capsules:
- if you are allergic to benzalkonium chloride or any of the other ingredients of this medicine.

Precautions:
Before taking Pharmatex 18.9 mg soft vaginal capsules, consult your doctor or pharmacist.

Pregnancy, breastfeeding and fertility:
No toxic effects have been reported related to the use of this spermicide during pregnancy.

The active substance is not absorbed, therefore the use of this medicine is possible during breastfeeding.

Driving and using machines:
Pharmatex does not affect your ability to drive or use machines.

How to use:
Always use this medicine exactly as described in this leaflet or as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.

Dosage:
One soft vaginal capsule is administered before each sexual intercourse, regardless of the period of your menstrual cycle. In the case of repeated intercourse, you should use a new capsule each time.

Method and route of administration:
It is administered vaginally. Do not swallow.
It is necessary to follow the following recommendations:
- systematically place one capsule deep in the vagina before each sexual intercourse, regardless of the period of your menstrual cycle;
- the capsule is inserted in the supine position, which allows for better placement deep in the vagina;
- wait for the capsule to dissolve completely so that the entire amount of active substance is released (10 minutes);
- in the case of a second or more sexual intercourse, take another capsule;
- protection is provided for a period of 4 hours;
- immediately after intercourse, only an external toilet of the region is allowed, only with water.

Composition:
- The active substance is benzalkonium chloride. Each soft vaginal capsule contains 18.9 mg of benzalkonium chloride in the form of an aqueous solution of benzalkonium chloride 50% m/v 37.8 mg.
- The other ingredients are: dimethicone 1000, colloidal silicon dioxide, hydroxypropylcellulose, macrogol 7-glyceryl cocoate, macrogol 400, gelatin, glycerin.
