Acifol 5 mg 30 Tablets, Zentiva – Folic Acid Supplement

Indications:
Acifol is a medicine containing a substance called folic acid, also known as vitamin B9.
Acifol is used for:
- treating a type of anemia called macrocytic anemia caused by folic acid deficiency;
- treating chronic intestinal absorption disorders, regardless of their origin;
- treating insufficient dietary intake due to malnutrition or alcoholism;
- pregnancy, in cases of proven folic acid deficiency;
- adjunctive treatment for a type of anemia called pernicious anemia (Biermer's anemia).
In women who have previously had a child with a neural tube closure defect (e.g., spina bifida), it has been found that folic acid supplementation of 5 mg daily—during the months preceding conception and the first 3 months after conception—reduced the risk of malformations in subsequent pregnancies.

Contraindications:
Do not use Acifol:
- if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to folic acid or any of the other ingredients of this medicine.

Precautions:
Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before using Acifol.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding:
If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant, or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.
Medical supervision is recommended during use in pregnancy.
Folic acid is excreted in human milk. Breastfeeding should not be interrupted during treatment with the recommended doses. Medical supervision is recommended during use while breastfeeding. Acifol is taken during pregnancy or breastfeeding as directed by your doctor.

Driving and using machines:
Acifol does not affect the ability to drive or use machines.

Method of administration:
Always take this medicine exactly as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.
Acifol is taken orally, during or after meals.
The recommended dose is 5–15 mg of folic acid (1–3 film-coated tablets) per day.

Composition:
- The active substance is folic acid. Each film-coated tablet contains 5 mg of folic acid.
- The other ingredients are: core – lactose monohydrate, maize starch, povidone K30, talc, magnesium stearate, butylhydroxyanisole, microcrystalline cellulose 102; film – hypromellose 5cP, talc, titanium dioxide (E171), polysorbate 80, macrogol 6000, yellow iron oxide (E172).
