Indications:
Diclosal 10 mg/g gel contains the active substance diclofenac (as sodium salt), which belongs to the class of medicines known as non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs).
It is specially formulated to be absorbed into the skin by local massage.
It is used in local treatment to reduce pain, inflammation and swelling, in the case of painful conditions affecting the joints and muscles.
It can be used to treat the following conditions:
Adults and adolescents aged 14 years and over:
- Muscle or joint injuries of rheumatic origin (e.g. sprains, dislocations,
bruises, back pain, sports injuries);
- minor tendon injuries (tendonitis, such as lateral epicondylitis).
Adults only (aged 18 years and over):
- Mild arthritis of the knees or fingers.
If after 7 days you do not feel better or you feel worse, you should consult a doctor.
Contraindications:
Do not use Diclosal 10 mg/g gel if:
- you are allergic (hypersensitive) to diclofenac sodium, other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as ibuprofen or acetylsalicylic acid or any of the other ingredients of the medicine.
Precautions:
Before using Diclosal 10 mg/g gel, consult your doctor or pharmacist.
Pregnancy, breast-feeding and fertility:
If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to become pregnant, consult your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking any medicine.
During the first 6 months of pregnancy, you can use Diclosal 10 mg/g gel only on the advice of a doctor, if absolutely necessary, and the dose should be kept as low and the duration of treatment as short as possible. From the 6th month, do not use Diclosal 10 mg/g gel, as it may harm the fetus or cause problems during childbirth.
Since diclofenac in gel form may be absorbed into the blood and pass into breast milk, a decision should be made whether to discontinue breast-feeding or to discontinue treatment with Diclosal 10 mg/g gel, taking into account the benefit of breast-feeding for the child and the benefit of treatment for the woman.
However, Diclosal 10 mg/g gel should not be applied to the breasts by nursing mothers, nor elsewhere on large areas of skin or for a longer period of time.
Driving and using machines:
Diclosal 10 mg/g gel has no influence on the ability to drive and use machines.
How to use:
Always use Diclosal 10 mg/g gel exactly as your doctor has told you. You should talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.
For adults and adolescents over 14 years of age:
Diclosal 10 mg/g gel is intended for use on the skin.
Diclosal 10 mg/g gel is applied 3-4 times a day to the affected area.
How to apply Diclosal 10 mg/g gel
1. Before first use, pierce the sealing membrane with the pointed tip of the cap.
Diclosal 10 mg/g gel is used holding the tube with the perforated hole facing down. Press the base of the tube (where there is a fold inscribed with the batch data) to obtain the required amount of gel.
2. Gently remove a small amount of gel from the tube and apply it to the painful or swollen area. The required dose administered with each application varies depending on the surface of the affected area (an amount that varies from the size of a cherry to that of a walnut).
To achieve absorption of the gel, perform a light and prolonged massage on the painful and/or inflamed area. You will feel a slight calming sensation when you massage the gel into the skin.
3. After each application, wash your hands thoroughly, unless the gel is used to
treat this area.
How long should you use Diclosal 10 mg/g gel
Do not use, depending on your age group, Diclosal 10 mg/g gel for more than:
Adults and adolescents aged 14 years and over:
- 14 days for joint and muscle injuries (e.g. sprains, strains, bruises) or tendonitis.
Adults only (18 years and over):
- 3 weeks for pain associated with arthritis.
Long-term treatment may be recommended by a specialist.
If after 7 days of treatment you do not notice any improvement in the symptoms of pain and inflammation or they worsen, you should see your doctor to reassess your treatment.
Use in children and adolescents
Diclosal 10 mg/g gel does not have enough data on the safety and efficacy for use in children and adolescents under 14 years of age.
In adolescents aged 14 years and over, if this medicine is needed for the treatment of pain for a period of more than 7 days or if symptoms worsen, the patient/parents of the adolescent are advised to consult a doctor.
If you have any further questions on this medicine, ask your doctor or pharmacist.
