Iodine cutaneous solution, 10%, 60 ml

Iodine Iodine 
100 mg/ml cutaneous solution is a broad-spectrum disinfectant (bactericidal, fungicidal, selective virucidal and antiprotozoal).

It is used for:
- Preoperative disinfection of the skin and mucous membranes;
- Disinfection of the skin before injections, transfusions, infusions, blood sampling, punctures, biopsies.
- Asepsis of superficial wounds, including skin burns.
- Adjuvant in case of bacterial and fungal infections of the skin and mucous membranes or in case of lesions susceptible to superinfections. 

Iodine 100 mg/ml cutaneous solution does not sterilize the skin, it only temporarily reduces the number of microorganisms.

Contraindications:
Do not use Iodine 100 mg/ml cutaneous solution:
- if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to povidone, iodine or any of the other ingredients of the medicine.

Precautions:
Before using Iodine 100 mg/ml cutaneous solution, consult your doctor or pharmacist.

Pregnancy and breast-feeding:
Ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking any medicine.
Since absorbed iodine can cross the feto-placental barrier, it is recommended to avoid the use of Iodine 100 mg/ml cutaneous solution in the first trimester of pregnancy and prolonged use in
the second and third trimesters of pregnancy is contraindicated.
Prolonged administration of the medicine or use near delivery produces significant iodine absorption, with fetal toxicity: hypothyroidism or neonatal goiter.

Use during pregnancy or in newborns and infants under 6 months of age is an exceptional indication and requires strict monitoring of thyroid function, both in the mother and the infant.
Treatment should be as short as possible.

The administration of Iodine 100 mg/ml cutaneous solution is contraindicated during breastfeeding, because absorbed iodine is excreted in breast milk.

Driving and using machines:
Iodine has no influence on the ability to drive or use machines. 

Method of administration:
Iodine 100 mg/ml, cutaneous solution is applied either as is or diluted, depending on the therapeutic indication and the affected area.

Administration of Iodine 100 mg/ml cutaneous solution as an undiluted solution:
- For the disinfection of intact skin (preoperative disinfection of skin and mucous membranes; disinfection of skin before injections, transfusions, infusions, blood sampling, punctures, biopsies) the solution is applied by swabbing and left to dry;
- For the disinfection of superficial wounds, including skin burns and skin infections, the solution is applied by swabbing 3-4 times a day.
- For the usual disinfection of hands, 3 ml of solution is applied and left in contact with the hands for 30 seconds. The procedure is performed 2 times.
- For surgical disinfection of hands, 5 ml of solution is applied and left in contact with the hands for 5 minutes. The procedure is performed 2 times.

Administration of Iodine 100 mg/ml cutaneous solution as a diluted solution:
Dilution is carried out depending on the therapeutic indication, the proportion being from 1:2 to 1:20.
- Wet compresses 1:5 – 1:10 (for example: 50 ml/100 ml – 5 ml/100 ml);
- Vaginal or urological washes 1:25 (for example 4 ml/100 ml);
- Washes of chronic or post-operative wounds 1:2-1:20 (for example 50 ml – 5 ml/100 ml);
- Post-operative oral washes 1:10 (for example 10 ml/100 ml).

The cutaneous solution should only be diluted before use. Dilution should be done with purified water or physiological saline if an isotonic solution is required (e.g. for washing wounds).

Composition:
- The active substance is povidone iodine. One ml of cutaneous solution contains povidone iodine 100 mg;
- The other ingredients are: glycerol, citric acid monohydrate, macrogol 400, sodium citrate, disodium phosphate anhydrous, sodium hydroxide, purified water
